Yoga Garden is a small, independent yoga studio located in Motomachi, Yokohama.
We offer yoga in a supportive, fresh and friendly environment. Our classes
are designed for everyone. If you can't touch your toes, feel you're not
flexible enough or are intimidated by the yoga you've seen, Yoga Garden
is the right place for you to learn and grow.
Our
philosophy, "grow with it," expresses
our desire for ourselves and our students to approach yoga as a personal
process. For us, yoga is
about setting and reaching your own goals, no matter what your level.
If you're in the area, please stop by for yoga and tea.
Yoga Benefits:
Yoga means "union." One reason we do yoga is to get our breath
in union with, working with, our body. If something in our body or mind
is out of synch the effects on our life are visible. Yoga helps keep our
whole being--body, mind, and spirit--balanced. Yoga helps keep a healthy
immune, respiratory, and circulatory system. Other benefits of yoga include:
• improved posture
• self-awareness
• stress-reduction
• easier digestion
• increased flexibility
Studio information:
Our studio is located only 3 minutes from Ishikawa-cho station, parallel to the
upscale Motomachi shopping street. Situtated on the fourth floor of the beautiful
and noise-free Kitamura building, Yoga Garden boasts an expansive balcony and
garden where you can practice yoga or meditation surrounded by plants and flowers.
Our studio is hypo-allergenic, using only eco-friendly cleaners and products.
We offer courtesy lockers for all our customers and have yoga mats that you can
use if you forget yours. Our studio is used strictly for yoga and your practice
will be quiet and distraction-free. If you're looking for prices, please check
the pricing information.
The co-founders:
Gwen and Patrick, the co-founders of Yoga Garden in Yokohama, have
traveled all over the world together. The furthest out they've been
together was in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco--where Gwen practiced
yoga on the rooftop of their mud house and Patrick practiced the art
of mindful volunteering.
When they came to Japan two years ago they started out as English teachers
in Tokyo and felt stressed and drained after just a few short months.
So, when a
position teaching children in an elementary school in Tochigi became available,
they took the opportunity in order to be in nature and around kids.
In Gunma, they opened a small yoga studio together (November 2004) and began
offering yoga classes three times a week, as a service to the community, in addition
to teaching full-time.
Gwen and Patrick came to Yokohama to combine three of their passions: a love
of adventure (and change), a devotion to teaching Japanese students and above
all, dedication to sharing the, often unexpected, joys of yoga. They look forward
to serving the area of Yokohama through yoga.
Walking Directions
From Ishikawacho Station go out the main exit and turn right. Go straight
and you'll see the big intersection with Tower Records on your left and
the Motomachi Bird Archway in front of you.
Cross the street towards the bird, but don't go down Motomachi, take a
right, and walk past IDA watch shop until you reach the next street, Naka
dori. There is a clothes shop named "Juice" on the corner.
Take a left onto Naka dori and walk a few seconds until you see a large
grey concrete building on your right. You will see Ceres Estate on the
corner of the building. Walk up the driveway with Ceres on your left, and
you will see a door on your left. Go in and take the elevator to the fourth
floor. From the elevator go left and continue to the end of the hall.
